My first Chavez fight
(7 posts)-
- My aunt took me to go see Chavez when I was a little kid... but that was Cesar Chavez and was nowhere near as exciting as it would have been to see JCC fight, especially for a little kid who doesn't understand any of it.
The first Chavez fight I saw was the Greg Haugen fight. Haugen wasn't his one of his very best opponents, but it was definitely one of the most entertaining matches with the build-up around it. Unfortunately, I didn't actually see the fight until about five years ago off a tape, but since then I've seen videos of most of Chavez's fights and have gradually come to understand just how great a fighter he was. It's what got me interested in boxing and keeps me watching, to see if anyone can match his greatness.

- The first Chavez fight I saw was the John Duplessis fight on the Tyson vs. Ruddock card (3-18-1991).
I remembered reading about the Chavez vs. Taylor fight in Sport magazine. I was curious about Taylor's reported hand speed, but also--and more--about Chavez' undefeated record.
I had heard that people often ran from Chavez, and Duplessis was apparently no excepton. The way that Chavez handled the running Duplessis was a perfect execution, lifting his record to 74-0 (or 75-0, depending on the source).
This was also the fight card that got me into watching boxing on a regular basis, as most of the fights on that PPV were good.

- The First JChavez fight I saw was vs. Mayweather 1 on tv. It was a second round KO. The first time I had seen JChavez in person was at Hollywood Park Sparring. The date was April 24,1993. I recently saw Julio and Julio Jr. Fight at Staples Center.I have followed the career of Senior and now Junior.Julio Sr. was awesome in his heyday. My favorite fighter of all time.

My first chavez fight was when Julio Cesar fought Meldrick Taylor in 1990. Back then I didn't know what a great fighter he was untill a couple fights after. I finally recognized Julio when he damaged Hector "macho clown" Camacho
