• On December 16th, Julio Cesar Chavez (23-0-1) received the first blemish on his record when Carlos Molina (8-1-1) extended him the six-round distance to a draw. This Saturday, February 18th, the young Chavez gets a second shot to defeat Molina when they fight at the Aladdin in Las Vegas. The bout will be on a card televised by Top Rank PPV.

In their first fight, Molina was able to cover up and protect himself while still getting inside to land some compact punches. Julito, used to waiting to find holes in the defense of his opponents, got started too late and lost the early rounds. In a fight that had been downgraded from eight rounds to six to fit on the television broadcast, the short bout ended in a draw.

In this match, however, Julito will be more active--making openings rather than waiting for them. Molina appeared to be at his defensive best in the first fight, but we'll see how well he does against a more aggressive opponent. And this time Julito, who had wanted to fight Grover Wiley in December, will be completely focused on Molina. "Don't be surprised if it ends by a knockout," he told ESTO.

Tomorrow will be his twentieth birthday, but Julito isn't thinkin about that right now. As he told HoyInternet.com[/url:2cd8otc1]: "I'm going to be training on Thursday, my birthday, but there's no better gift than winning on Saturday. It doesn't matter if I have a birthday party or not. That's the least important thing. I'm focused on this fight."

Julito will have a public training session today at the Aladdin at noon.
The final press conference will be on Thursday, and the weigh-ins on Friday.

• From FightNews.com:

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. celebrates his 20th birthday on Thursday, the day of his "Real Warriors" press conference at the Aladdin Hotel-Casino. During his workout today, he said "going to the mountains (the Otomi) was the best thing I could do. It got me into terrific shape and I am ready to erase any doubts about my upcoming victory over Carlos Molina. "Molina is a good, busy fighter who throws a lot of punches but I am a lot stronger this time around." Molina gave Chavez all he could handle in their first bout, a hotly contested draw in December. • Chavez Jr. got into Vegas late Tuesday, but still had time to head over to the Top Rank gym briefly: "I was travelling all day and didn't have time to train. I just went to the gym to get in a little work so I could eat well."

:jumping: :jumprope: :redpunch:

Then on Wednesday he got in a light training session for the public at the Theatre of the Aladdin Hotel, where the fight will be held.

"I know I'll have to give it everything I have against Molina. I didn't like at all that draw we got in Monterrey. It wasn't a great night for me, but I still believe that I did enough to win the fight. This Saturday I won't leave any doubts as to which of us is better."

Chavez Jr. trained for five weeks at the Centro Ceremonial Otomi: "I felt really good at the Otomi. It's the first time in my career that I trained there, and I left feeling good and satisfied with the work I got in during the preparation."

Carlos Molina arrived Wednesday night in Vegas from Wisconsin.

Today is Julito's twentieth birthday, but he's too focused on the fight to celebrate until he gets the victory.

Julio Cesar Chavez Carrasco (23-0-1) turned 20 today, and the organizers of the "Real Warriors" PPV card presented him with a cake decorated as a boxing ring at the press conference today.

"I respect Molina as a boxer... In our first match he fought a good fight, but I won't be the same at I was that night... Things will be different. I don't like the doubts, and this Saturday everyone will know who's better... I assure you it'll be a great fight."

Carlos Molina (8-1-1): "I already proved in the first fight that I'm capable of beating him, and this time I hope to receive a fair decision."

In another interesting note, this will be the first of Julito's fights which Vegas is putting odds on.

• At the Aladdin Casino, Julio Cesar Jr. is the favorite to win 2-1 over Molina.
Antonio Margarito is favored 5-1 over Manuel Gomez.

It is perhaps the first time that a six-round fight has had odds put on it there, very odd especially considering the two other world title fights (Brian Viloria vs. Jose Antonio Aguirre, Ivan Calderon vs. Isaac Bustos) will not have odds on them this weekend.

• More Chavez quotes, from Once Noticias:

Chavez Jr. on future plans: "First of all I want to win on the 18th and then look at the plans - plans to fight at ten rounds and to fight against [Grover Wiley] who beat my father, but the 18th comes before all that."

JC Sr. also spoke about his son: "Things are going very well, but I'm always nervous, always.... But I'm completely confident that he'll come into this fight extremely well prepared and that he's going to win."

On whether his son can accomplish what he did: "God gives as he wills. If he doesn't will it to be, then no matter. But looking at how he's progressing and being managed, I believe that he'll be a world champion very soon."

• Chavez Jr. will definitly need to change his game plan, especially on defense. In the first fight Molina was able to connect easily which probably caused the judges to come to a draw. If Jr. can avoid Molina's relentless aggression Jr. should win without a problem.

• ESTO en Linea got a chance to talk to Carlos Molina before the fight:
http://www.oem.com.mx/esto/060218/box/5box.asp[/url:8bbmxxqe]

- Were you already familiar with Julito before you fought him?

"Yes, because I like to watch all the fights on television. I even pictured that I might fight him since we're the same weight, and I thought about what I would have to do in the ring, and it came about. I think I did enough to beat him in Monterrey, but the judges called it a draw. Now I have to go in to win all the rounds. I've reviewed the video. I'm better prepared and know what I have to do and what I have to watch out for."

- Do you think you can win by KO?

"Yes, now I know how to land on him, how to go at him. I don't think there will be any feeling-out rounds but that we're both going to start strong..."
