Julio Cesar Chavez Jr emerged victorious in his Latin Fury 15 brawl against John Duddy. After twelve rounds, Chavez won by an unanimous decision with scores of 120-108, 117-111, and 116-112. Chavez is now 41-0-1, 30 KOs, and Duddy fell to 29-2, 18 KOs.

Also on the card, Marco Antonio Barrera won a ten-round unanimous decision over Adailton De Jesus. Raul Martinez knocked out Gabriel Elizondo in the seventh round of their bout. Tomas Villa scored an eight-round decision over Salvador Sanchez II (nephew of the former world champion with the same name).

At Latin Fury 15, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr made a victorious debut at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, with a twelve-round decision over John Duddy. This was Chavez’s first fight with new trainer Freddie Roach and conditioning coach Alex Ariza. The judge’s scorecards were 120-108, 117-111, and 116-112.

Undercard:

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and John Duddy are prepared for their headlining bout on Latin Fury 15 in San Antonio today. Duddy (29-1, 18 KOs) weighed in at 159 and Chavez (40-0-1, 30 KOs) weighed in at 160.

The undercard fights will be available via live streaming at TopRank.com starting at 7p EST, and the Pay-Per-View starts at 9p EST.

In the main event of Tijuana Thunder, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr won a ten-round decision over Luciano Cuello. Judges scored the bout 96-95, 96-94, and 97-93, upping Chavez’s record to 39-0-1, 29 KOs, and giving Cuello his first loss for a record of 23-1, 10 KOs.

Also on the card, WBC Super Featherweight champ Humberto Soto retained his title with a fourth-round KO of Antonio Davis. Fernando Montiel won the vacant WBO Bantamweight title with a third-round KO of Diego Silva. Antonio Diaz won an unanimous decision over Javier Castro.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr expressed his confidence at a press conference in L.A. on Monday, This is a very important fight for me, because it’s the beginning of what I’m sure will be one of the most important years of my career. I not only hope to win the fight, but to do so convincingly.

About the March 28 Tijuana event headlining Chavez against Luciano Cuello, Bob Arum of Top Rank stated This is a very loaded card and we’re sure it will be a great night of boxing in Tijuana. It’s not always possible to have so much talent in one event and that’s why I think this is the most attractive card we’ve had in our ‘Latin Fury’ series.

Chavez vs. Cuello

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr is ready for his match next Saturday (March 28th) against Luciano Cuello at the Plaza de Toros Monumental in Tijuana. I will be at 100% for my fight against Cuello in Tijuana. I have not seen too much of him, but he looks like a difficult opponent with an awkward style and he seem to throw a lot of punches. …I will be ready for anything and everything from Cuello, Chavez said. JC Jr will be in Los Angeles on Monday, March 23rd, along with WBC super featherweight champ Humberto Soto, WBO super flyweight champ Fernando Montiel, Top Rank’s Bob Arum, and Zanfer Promotions’ Fernando Beltran to promote the Tijuana event. The press conference will be held at the Gold Ballroom in the Millennium Biltmore Hotel at noon.
Top Rank may not be rushing to put Julio Cesar Chavez Jr against the top competition. Matchmaker Bruce Trampler told The Ring’s Bill Detloff There’s no reason (to fight a Top-10 guy now). Why? Why does he have to fight Joshua Clottey, or whoever? You’ve got four southpaw titleholders at 154, and Junior’s not good with lefties.
