Julio Cesar Chavez vs. Verdell Smith

By the fourth round, Chavez was repeatedly landing his right and in complete control of the fight. The referee stepped in at 1:36 into the round to give Chavez the TKO victory.

THE OPPONENT – Verdell Smith began his pro boxing career in 1988 in his hometown of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Notable fights on his record before this bout include a decision loss to Hector Camacho in 1995, a TKO win over Louie Lomeli in 1995, a decision loss to “Yori Boy” Campas in 1997 and a decision loss to Oba Carr in 1998. After this fight, he suffered decision losses to Cory Spinks, Jesse James Leija, Leonard Dorin, as well as many other name fighters. A career jobber, he has also fought Marty Jakubowski fourteen times in different cities, thirteen losses by decision and one no contest. Smith is still active and had a record of 46-90-3 (17).
