Julio Cesar Chavez vs. Russell Mosley

Mosley (4-3-1), announced as Victor Mables, almost slipped a number of times on a soft canvas. About a minute into the third round, Chavez scored the first knockdown with a left hook to the head. Less than a minute later, Mosley fell face forward after being hit with a hard body shot and was unable to beat the count, giving Chavez the KO win.

THE UNDERCARD – Jesus Mayorga earned a TKO win over Conrado Lopez in the fifth. Luis Vazquez knocked out Ricardo Villa in one.

THE OPPONENT – Russell Mosley of Fort Worth, Texas, is one of the opponents who would surely be described by some as just one of those taxi drivers Chavez fought. I’m not sure how he got into this fight, but he was definitely in way over his head. Mosley had only had eight pro fights prior to this one, four of them being losses even though he hadn’t yet faced an opponent with more than two wins. This seemed to set the stage for him, though, as he would later go on to lose fights to Wilfredo Vazquez, Jesus Chavez and a number of up and coming boxers. However, he still won occassionally, including once against Lupe Pintor. Mosley retired from boxing in 2001 with a record of 10-23-2 (4).
