Julio Cesar Chavez vs. Refugio Rojas

Chavez scored the TKO win over Rojas (28-12-0, 17 KOs) at 2:33 into the seventh round to retain his WBC super featherweight title. This was the first of only two fights Chavez would have at Madison Square Garden.

THE OPPONENT – Refugio Rojas began his pro career in 1977. In 1981 we was knocked out in two by Edwin Rosario and suffered a first round TKO by Hector Camacho the following year. However, he briefly held the USBA featherweight and super featherweight titles before his fight with Chavez. He would retire in 1990 with a record of 31-17-1 (20).

ALSO ON THE CARD – Hector Camacho retained his WBC lightweight title with a close decision over Edwin Rosario. Mike Tyson scored a first round TKO over Reggie Gross.
