Chavez knocked out Lara in the second round.

THE OPPONENT – Lara debuted in 1967 but had no other recorded fights until 1976 when he was knocked out in the fourth by Jose Luis Ramirez. There was a rematch to that fight in early 1980 after Ramirez had gained the Mexican lightweight title, but Lara was knocked out in the seventh round. Lara’s first match with Chavez was in September of 1980; he lost a ten-round points decision. Lara retired after this fight.
