THE OPPONENT – Benny Abarca’s first recorded fight was in April of 1977. He lost two consecutive events to win the Mexican Lightweight title from Jose Luis Ramirez. In his first fight with Chavez, he had lost on a decision. Abarca retired later in the year after this fight with a record of 9-14-0.
