The second professional fight of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. came on the undercard of “Chavez Forever,” on which Chavez Sr. avenged his defeat by Willy Wise of four years earlier (Ring Magazine’s 1999 Upset of the Year) with a second round TKO and younger brother Omar Chavez fought Eduardo Orozco in a three-round amateur bout.
Chavez Jr. did honor to the family name, scoring his first professional knockout victory. Opponent Eugene Johnson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, had on his record decision losses to Joel Casamayor and Paul Spadafora, but Julio scored the KO at just 1:32 of the first round.
Also on the card, Jorge Kahwagi TKO’ed Mario Maciel in two for the Mexican cruiserweight title. Featherweight Diego Morales won a technical decision over Evangelio Pérez.
