In an event at the Arena Monterrey, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. was extended to the sixth round by Carlos Molina (8-1, 4 KO’s) for the first time in his career. The only blemish on Molina’s record coming into this fight was a four-round split decision which, regardless of the judges’ decision, was a brawl that could have easily gone his way. In this match, Chavez gave up his reach advantage, letting Molina in to brawl where he could do the most damage and gave up rounds in the process. Molina also showed a good defense, blocking most of Julio’s shots. At the end of six rounds, the fight was declared a draw, though many of the fans would have given Molina the decision.
In the main event, WBC interim flyweight titlist Jorge “Travieso” Arce scored a tenth round TKO over former WBO superfly titlist Adonis Rivas due to a cut over the latter’s right eye. Travieso’s younger brother, super flyweight Francisco Arce, knocked out Julio Grimaldo at :48 seconds of round four. Lightweight Rodrigo Juarez won a majority decision over previously unbeaten Zaid Zavaleta.
